OnWire President Named To NC State’s Computer Science Strategic Advisory Board

Chonly Wang, Founder and President of OnWire Consulting Group (OnWire), was recently recognized as one of four new members added to NC State University’s Computer Science Strategic Advisory Board (SAB).  Dr. Mladen Vouk, the head of the NC State Department of Computer Science, made the announcement earlier this week. The SAB is comprised of top industry executives and academic leaders, and provides guidance and direction towards shaping the department’s strategic focus.

The major responsibility that the SAB takes on each year is to assist NC State’s Computer Science department  with its strategic planning efforts. In addition to planning, the SAB also plays an active role in overcoming key challenges that the department may face. One such solution to a problem, the launch of the Diversity in Computer Science Endowment, was created to help improve the attraction and retention rates of minorities and females in the computer science field. The SAB provides the funds to keep this continuing each year.

The SAB also holds meetings each spring on campus, helping the department determine which direction it should move towards during the upcoming school year. The members are involved with the progression of the department throughout the year as well, taking part in conference calls and being contributors on executive panels and subcommittees.
